Slow Tea in a Fast World
In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, convenience often replaces ritual. Yet speed and tradition are not opposites.
This Taotie Pattern Travel Tea Cup was created for those who seek moments of calm without leaving daily rhythm behind — a vessel that allows tea culture to exist naturally within modern life.
Compact and portable, it offers a personal tea ritual wherever the day unfolds.

Yaozhou celadon travel tea cup featuring the ancient Taotie motif.
The Origin of the Taotie Motif
The Taotie pattern originates from bronze ritual vessels of the Western Zhou dynasty (c. 1046 BCE), when the Zhou capital was established near present-day Xi’an. These motifs emerged from the Zhouyuan region — the birthplace of Zhou civilization.
Characterized by a central ridge resembling a nose bridge, flanked by raised oval forms suggesting eyes, the Taotie motif forms a powerful animal mask composed of layered, symmetrical elements.
During the Northern Song dynasty, scholars cataloguing ancient bronzes formally named this design “Taotie.” Historically, it symbolized authority, order, protection, courage, and the connection between heaven, humanity, and the spiritual world.
Ancient Imagery, Contemporary Form
Yaozhou kiln ware, founded in the Tang dynasty and flourishing during the Song dynasty, is one of China’s most important historic celadon traditions and a representative of northern celadon.
This travel tea cup reimagines the Western Zhou Taotie motif through Yaozhou ceramic techniques, combining ancient symbolism with contemporary design. The lid and cups feature celadon glaze, while the bowl incorporates a subtle glass-like tonal contrast, creating a modern, layered aesthetic that feels cultural yet current.

Designed for Modern Use
Every element of the cup is shaped with both comfort and mobility in mind:
Bold, ergonomic lid knob — secure grip and comfortable handling
Smooth bowl body — heat-resistant and easy to hold
Court-inspired cup form — refined, balanced, and elegant
Portable modular design — suitable for travel, office, or daily carry
This is a tea vessel made for movement, yet grounded in tradition.
Where Time Periods Quietly Meet
By placing a Western Zhou ritual motif onto a Song-inspired celadon surface and shaping it for contemporary life, this travel tea cup becomes more than a utensil. It is a quiet meeting point of eras — ancient symbolism, classical craftsmanship, and modern rhythm held together in one object.

A modern portable tea cup designed for tea moments on the go.
