1. Product Story / Craftsmanship
This handmade wood-fired Baoping teapot represents the distinctive ceramic language of the 28-Yaki series — combining traditional Chinese tea vessel forms with a sculptural wabi-sabi aesthetic shaped by flame, ash, and time.
The teapot is fully hand-pinched rather than mold-made, giving the body a natural asymmetry and tactile vitality impossible to replicate through industrial production. Its proportions intentionally reference high-antique tea vessel forms, creating a quiet yet powerful presence during tea practice.
Fired in a traditional wood kiln, the surface develops naturally through prolonged exposure to flame and flying ash. Layers of mineral deposits, kiln transformation coloration, and subtle carbon markings emerge unpredictably during firing, making every angle visually unique.
The interior spiral texture adds movement and depth to the brewing chamber, while the asymmetrical cloud-pattern lid knob introduces a sculptural focal point that enhances both usability and visual identity.
Its carefully refined spout design allows for smooth pouring and sharp water separation, making it highly suitable for Gongfu tea preparation. With a standard 165ml Baoping capacity, the teapot is especially comfortable for tea sessions shared by two to three people.
Balancing rustic kiln-fired atmosphere with refined functional performance, this piece embodies the spirit of contemporary handmade wood-fired teaware.

3. Artist Profile
You Shanzi, founder of Da You Tang Studio, is a ceramic artist and tea vessel collector with more than two decades of experience in East Asian tea culture.
After years of studying historical ceramics and tea traditions across China and Japan, he developed a distinctive understanding of hand-built pottery and wood-fired aesthetics. His works emphasize not only visual expression, but also tactile experience, pouring performance, and the emotional atmosphere created during tea practice.
The “28-Yaki” series was established in Chang’an. Its name derives from an ancient bronze-script variation of the Chinese character “玄” (Xuan), whose form visually resembles the numbers 2 and 8. The series represents a fusion of ceramic tradition, tea philosophy, and contemporary handmade expression.
