1. Product Story / Craftsmanship
This handmade jade porcelain tea cup combines restrained form with narrative ceramic expression.
Built entirely by hand, the cup adopts a clean cylindrical silhouette that emphasizes proportion, texture, and surface detail rather than excessive decoration. Its quiet geometry allows the painted imagery and translucent porcelain body to become the emotional focus of the piece.
On the exterior surface appears a hand-painted “Nine-Colored Deer” motif — rendered with a light and dreamlike quality inspired by classical East Asian artistic aesthetics. Rather than functioning as simple illustration, the imagery acts as a poetic visual element integrated naturally into the ceramic surface.
The jade porcelain body possesses a soft translucency that subtly reveals the color and movement of tea liquor during use, creating an effect reminiscent of traditional delicate translucent cups. This luminous quality enhances both visual atmosphere and tea appreciation.
In contrast to the refined porcelain surface, portions of the exterior intentionally preserve raw clay texture and roughened “natural skin” details. These irregular areas introduce balance, depth, and a quiet wabi-sabi character reminiscent of shifting tree shadows or weathered stone surfaces.
With a capacity of approximately 80ml, the cup functions especially well as a personal host cup for Gongfu tea practice, while also being suitable for sake and other small beverages.
Balancing narrative imagery, translucency, and handmade texture, this piece represents a more poetic and contemplative direction within the 28-Yaki ceramic series.

3. Artist Profile
You Shanzi, founder of Da You Tang Studio, is a ceramic artist and tea vessel collector with more than two decades of experience in East Asian tea culture.
After years of studying historical ceramics and tea traditions across China and Japan, he developed a distinctive understanding of hand-built pottery and ceramic aesthetics. His works emphasize not only visual expression, but also tactile experience, tea interaction, and the emotional atmosphere created during daily use.
The “28-Yaki” series was established in Chang’an. Its name derives from an ancient bronze-script variation of the Chinese character “玄” (Xuan), whose form visually resembles the numbers 2 and 8. The series represents a fusion of ceramic tradition, tea philosophy, and contemporary handmade expression.
