1. Product Story / Craftsmanship
This handmade Shino glaze tea cup reflects a quieter and more restrained expression within the 28-Yaki ceramic series.
Built entirely by hand, the cup features a gently irregular polygonal form that preserves the warmth and individuality of true hand-shaped pottery. The faceted surface introduces subtle shifts in light and shadow, giving the vessel a sculptural character while improving tactile comfort during use.
The surface is finished with a soft Shino-style glaze, creating a milky white texture reminiscent of freshly settled snow covering earth and stone. Beneath the glaze, portions of the warm brown clay body remain visible, adding depth, contrast, and a sense of age-inspired simplicity.
A small blue accent brushstroke appears naturally across the surface as a restrained visual focal point — understated yet highly distinctive.
The proportions are intentionally balanced for both tea and sake use. With a 60ml capacity, the cup functions beautifully as a personal Gongfu tea cup, host cup, or small sake vessel.
Its moderate wall thickness helps maintain comfortable heat retention while preserving a refined drinking experience.
Balancing softness, texture, and quiet asymmetry, this piece embodies the intimate atmosphere of contemporary handmade ceramic tea ware.

3. Artist Profile
You Shanzi, founder of Da You Tang Studio, is a ceramic artist and tea vessel collector with more than two decades of experience in East Asian tea culture.
After years of studying historical ceramics and tea traditions across China and Japan, he developed a distinctive understanding of hand-built pottery and wood-fired aesthetics. His works emphasize not only visual expression, but also tactile experience, pouring performance, and the emotional atmosphere created during tea practice.
The “28-Yaki” series was established in Chang’an. Its name derives from an ancient bronze-script variation of the Chinese character “玄” (Xuan), whose form visually resembles the numbers 2 and 8. The series represents a fusion of ceramic tradition, tea philosophy, and contemporary handmade expression.
