Description

A Song Dynasty Form Reimagined in Yaozhou Celadon

This Song-style gaiwan takes its form from ancient Chinese tea bowls (cha ou) used during the Tang and Song dynasties.
The bowl features a slightly shallow body with a restrained inward-curving rim, while the domed lid echoes classical proportions found in historical tea ware.

The lid and bowl connect through a traditional “mother-and-child” fit, allowing smooth opening and closing while maintaining stability during pouring.

Crafted in Yaozhou celadon, the glaze presents a soft olive-green tone, smooth and luminous, evoking the calm elegance of Song dynasty aesthetics.

Glaze, Color, and Tactile Experience

The celadon glaze is clean and even, with a gentle depth that responds beautifully to light.
The lid knob is finished in a contrasting purple-gold glaze, adding a subtle focal point without disrupting the overall harmony.

Balanced in hand and comfortable to hold, this gaiwan is designed for both mindful solo tea sessions and refined daily use—where function and aesthetics meet naturally.

Two Styles Available

Style 1|Bronze Taotie Pattern Song-Style Gaiwan
Inspired by Western Zhou bronze motifs, the Taotie pattern wraps subtly around the lid edge.
Rendered through celadon craftsmanship, this design bridges ancient bronze culture with Tang–Song ceramic traditions, offering depth, symbolism, and visual character.

Style 2|Plain Celadon Song-Style Gaiwan
Minimalist and unadorned, this version highlights the purity of Yaozhou celadon itself.
The smooth olive-green surface contrasts elegantly with the purple-gold lid knob, appealing to tea lovers who value simplicity and quiet refinement.
