Description

1. Product Story / Craftsmanship

This hand-pinched jade porcelain clay teapot reflects the unique aesthetic philosophy of the 28-Yaki series, where traditional Chinese pottery meets a contemporary interpretation of tea culture.

Unlike conventional wheel-thrown teaware, this piece is entirely shaped by hand. The irregular yet controlled form embodies the essence of hand-pinched pottery—subtle asymmetry, tactile richness, and a strong sense of individuality.

The exterior features a multi-layered glaze application, producing a natural, stone-like surface reminiscent of weathered rock textures. This “clay-block” (陶块石) technique adds depth and structure, creating a visual contrast between refinement and raw strength.

Its compact “Baoping” (treasure bottle) form is designed for Gongfu tea practice. The precisely engineered spout and filter system ensure smooth pouring and clean water separation, enhancing both usability and the clarity of tea liquor.

Especially suitable for oolong tea, rock tea, and delicate green teas such as Gyokuro, this teapot allows for excellent aroma retention and controlled infusion, making it a functional yet artistic piece for daily tea sessions or contemplative brewing.

3. Artist Profile

You Shanzi, founder of Da You Tang Studio, is a ceramic artist with over two decades of experience in tea culture and East Asian teaware.

Having studied tea practices in Japan and collected a wide range of historical ceramics, he developed a deep understanding of the relationship between tea and its vessels. His work emphasizes not only visual aesthetics but also tactile experience and functional performance.

The “28-Yaki” series was developed in Chang’an, inspired by the ancient character “玄” (Xuan), whose form resembles the numbers 2 and 8. This series represents a synthesis of tradition, philosophy, and contemporary ceramic expression.
