1. Product Story / Craftsmanship
This handmade jade porcelain cup embodies a refined balance between material purity and sculptural expression.
Made from high-quality porcelain clay, the body reveals a clean, luminous surface that beautifully reflects the color of tea liquor. This makes it especially suitable for appreciating subtle infusions such as green tea, oolong, or light-roasted teas.
Unlike smooth, industrial forms, the cup is shaped entirely by hand using a faceting technique (“mentori”), creating sharp yet controlled planes across the surface. This approach is reminiscent of stone-cut textures often seen in contemporary ceramic art, giving the piece a strong visual identity rooted in natural forms.
Multiple glaze layers are applied to enhance depth and variation, resulting in a surface that feels both raw and refined. The tactile quality is further emphasized when held—each angle interacts differently with the hand, making the drinking experience more engaging.
With a capacity of approximately 50ml, the cup is ideal for Gongfu tea sessions, allowing for controlled tasting and appreciation. At the same time, its size and form also make it suitable for sake or other small beverages, extending its usability beyond tea.
When combined with the jade porcelain teapot and illustrated tray from the same series, it completes a cohesive and highly recognizable tea set that reflects both craftsmanship and personality.

3. Artist Profile
You Shanzi, founder of Da You Tang Studio, is a ceramic artist with over two decades of experience in tea culture and East Asian teaware.
Having studied tea practices in Japan and collected a wide range of historical ceramics, he developed a deep understanding of the relationship between tea and its vessels. His work emphasizes not only visual aesthetics but also tactile experience and functional performance.
The “28-Yaki” series was developed in Chang’an, inspired by the ancient character “玄” (Xuan), whose form resembles the numbers 2 and 8. This series represents a synthesis of tradition, philosophy, and contemporary ceramic expression.
